Are you a fan of readings?
Since the pandemic, I have picked up a lot of readings than I used to. Reading has transformed me into a more confident person than I had ever been. I am aiming to read at least two books a month. Since I gave up watching TV, news, and Netflix, Reading has become my best hobby.
Today, I’m sharing with you my thoughts on the book ” Believe It” by Jamie Kern Lima. I have to be honest that there were many moments in reading this book when I couldn’t stop crying. The way Jamie described her entrepreneurship journey in the book so vulnerably and honestly made me just crave for more so I ended up reading continuously for two hours straight without stopping at times.
The book is about how one with an inspiring idea turned that into a successful company that was eventually sold for more than a billion dollars. The journey described in the book is no short of anything other than how Jamie was facing the journey of countless rejections, facing self-doubt, body doubt, and spiritual doubt to build a story of perseverance, resilience, and self-belief.
This is not the book just only talks about entrepreneurship and business. Jamie also told stories about her relationship with her real mother who she had spent many years to find after discovering at the age of 27 that she was adopted at birth, the relationship she had with her best friend, and the journey of struggling with her pregnancy which ended her up with surrogacy.
Lessons learned from this book for me are:
- The greatest risk of all is staying where you are and not taking any risks.
- When you have an idea and tell someone, the first thing they would probably say to you is that you won’t make it because they put their own limitations on you. Don’t listen, follow your intuition, and don’t let their doubts turn into doubts in your own head.
- Your past doesn’t determine your future. You can’t see the point behind you doesn’t mean it is not there.
- Embracing your truth. Forgive, and make peace with your broken pieces. By doing that, you will find what you are looking for – peace and joy.
- There will always be mean people along your journey, don’t be discouraged by them, knowing your WHY so strong that you can continue to carry on with your mission.
- You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with so if those five aren’t empowering you, it’s time to audit your inventory. Make sure that you choose the right people you hand your microphone to and turn up the volume accordingly.
- Believe in the power of authenticity, be you, tell your truth and again follow your intuition. Being inauthentic guarantees failure.
- The power of friendship and trust. There is always an extra seat for another girl at your table, make sure you always empower the power of plus one.
- No one should be on a journey alone in their lives, miracles happen, you just need to believe them.
- You don’t have to have a lot to give, we all have the power to give right at this moment in time, giving advice, giving time, giving resources, you never know how it will change and make an impact on someone’s life.
- Be your light that shines so brightly that illuminates the path to others.
- Lastly, listen to your intuition, believe in what your heart is telling you, work hard and don’t give up and see what happens.
I hope you have enjoyed reading the review. It is a must-read book. Let me know your thoughts in the comments after you finish reading the book.
